Download an Instagram Reel or video post
Copy the link from a public Instagram Reel or a post that contains video. In the app, open the specific post, choose its sharing menu, and use Copy link; in a browser, copy the full address from that post’s page. Paste it in the field above. The tool recognizes common /reel/, /reels/, /p/, and older /tv/ link shapes. A post URL alone does not prove there is video in it: Instagram posts can also be photographs or carousels. The resolve step checks the actual public media and lists MP4 formats only when video is available.
If a result card appears, compare its thumbnail and title with the post you meant to save. Choose the primary MP4 or open More formats to inspect other eligible files. The browser then requests an attachment from the relay. A size may be absent when the source does not provide a reliable estimate. That absence does not mean the file is empty; it means you should allow extra storage and data for the transfer. The site has a 2 GB cap per file and a one-hour limit for the current video workflow.
This flow is for public material that you own or are authorized to copy. Instagram’s own help warns that copying or reposting content can infringe rights even when it is easy to view, bought elsewhere, or credited. Music in Reels can have additional licensing restrictions. Do not treat a public link as a license to republish a creator’s footage. If the post is yours, your original camera file or Instagram’s account export may be a better archival copy than a platform-compressed rendition.
Reel, post, and older video URLs
The identifier after /reel/ or /p/ points to a particular Instagram item. A creator’s profile link points to many items and is not enough for this tool. Open the Reel or post itself before copying the address. Share links can contain tracking query parameters; those do not change the media item. If a link was copied from a private message and opens only in your signed-in Instagram app, try it in a private browser window. The anonymous resolver needs the public post to load without your login.
A regular /p/ link can contain a video, but it can also be a still image or a carousel with mixed content. The tool currently presents one video-format result from the media it can extract; it is not a bulk carousel archiver. If you need several clips from a carousel you created, use the source files from your device. An older /tv/ URL may still identify video, but platform redirects and archival behavior can change. Copy the final public post address if a shortened or old link fails.
Stories are not included. Story URLs are temporary and may require account-specific access; Highlights have a different structure too. Pasting a profile, Story, or Highlight link will usually produce an unsupported or invalid link message. The site does not request a login or impersonate a viewer to reach disappearing content. Reels shared to another platform should be copied from the platform whose video page you want to use, because a social share wrapper can send you to a different host.
MP4 quality and sound
Instagram commonly recompresses video for delivery. The list shown after resolving represents what the public post currently makes accessible, not the untouched camera original. A creator may upload high-resolution footage, but the viewer rendition can be smaller. The main button favors an eligible MP4 at or below 1080p; it does not imply that every Reel actually has a 1080p file. If the result shows a lower quality, selecting that file will not reconstruct detail removed by upload compression.
Audio matters as much as picture for a Reel. A post may have an original sound, licensed music, no sound at all, or audio that is unavailable in a particular region. The relay can deliver the video and eligible audio that the source supplies, but it cannot grant a music license or restore a removed soundtrack. If your saved MP4 is silent, first check whether the original post plays with sound in a public browser view. Then verify that the download completed. If the Reel relies on an Instagram music feature, that track may not be available in the extracted media.
For quick sharing between your own devices, a smaller MP4 may be enough. An unknown size is not a promise that the file is small. Check your storage before saving and prefer Wi-Fi for larger files. Files over the per-request cap appear unavailable in the format list when the size is known. MP3 conversion and separate subtitle export are not active yet, even if the original post includes audio or on-screen captions. Text burned into a video remains part of the picture, not a separate caption file.
Access and copyright boundaries
Private-account posts cannot be fetched merely because you follow that account. The resolver uses no Instagram account session and cannot inherit your app permissions. Deleted posts, region-limited media, age-restricted pages, and content protected by access controls may also fail. If a post demands login in a private browser, do not keep retrying this public-link tool. Ask the creator for an authorized copy if you need one.
Viewing and copying are different actions. Meta’s help stresses that crediting a creator or finding a work online does not automatically make reuse lawful. You should understand the rights in the video and its music before saving or reposting. This site limits use to personal, noncommercial purposes under its Terms. A downloaded MP4 should not be used to erase attribution, impersonate the creator, or distribute the footage without permission.
Troubleshooting Instagram links
A Reel link is rejected before parsing. Check for the /reel/ path and a complete item code. Some sharing surfaces produce a profile URL or an app deep link instead of a normal web page. Open the Reel in a browser and copy its full instagram.com/reel/... address. Punctuation appended by a chat message can also break a link; paste only the URL if detection is uncertain.
A post resolves but has no video. A /p/ post may be a photograph or a mixed carousel. This tool is for MP4 video, not still-image extraction. Open the post and verify there is an actual playable clip. If you own a carousel with several videos, use the files you uploaded or save them individually through an authorized route rather than expecting one link to create a package.
The post is visible to me, but the site reports private. Your browser or app may be logged in. Test the link without your session to see what the public can reach. Private accounts and follower-only content are not supported. The site will not ask for your password to work around that restriction. A link from a private message can also point to media whose audience changed after it was sent.
The file looks soft, has no sound, or appears in the wrong folder. Compare the result’s quality options, but remember that platform compression cannot be undone. Check the original public post for sound and let the browser finish transferring the attachment. On iPhone, Safari usually saves under Files > Downloads; use the device’s own Save Video action to move a compatible file to Photos. On desktop, check the browser’s configured download directory.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I paste an Instagram Reel link?
- Yes, the detector recognizes common public /reel/ and /reels/ URLs. The Reel still has to be accessible without an account.
- Do image posts become videos?
- No. A post URL is accepted because posts can contain video, but a photo-only post has no MP4 video format to save.
- Are Stories supported?
- No. Story and Highlight routes are outside the current public post and Reel link patterns.
- Why is the original upload quality missing?
- The service can list only renditions returned for that public post. Instagram may have recompressed the uploaded video.
- Can this tool access a private account I follow?
- No. It does not use your Instagram session or credentials to fetch posts from a private account.
