How to download a YouTube video as MP4

Start with the video page, not a channel page or a search result. Copy the address from the browser or use Share and Copy link on the video. A normal watch link contains a video ID after v=. A Short has a /shorts/ path. Short links are recognized as video links; a shortened youtu.be address is accepted too. Paste the complete link into the field above and press Download. If the link is public and currently reachable, the tool shows the title, thumbnail, duration, and available MP4 choices.

Read the result before saving. The main button selects the best available video format up to 1080p. Open More formats when you need a smaller file for mobile data or a larger rendition for a display. A format may be unavailable because the estimated file exceeds the per-download limit or the video is too long. The label explains that restriction rather than hiding the format. When you click Save MP4, the browser requests an attachment from the download relay. A playlist URL, channel homepage, search page, or music-library landing page is not a single video URL. Open an individual video and copy its own address. A music.youtube.com/watch?v=... address may match the current link rules, but music licensing and access conditions can make extraction fail; a matching link is never a guarantee of a downloadable file. An unlisted link should be treated as sensitive even if it is technically reachable. Do not paste a link that you do not have permission to use or share.

Some videos appear in different wrappers. A link copied from an embedded player may have an /embed/ path, and a current live video may have a /live/ path. The parser can recognize those shapes, but a live broadcast is not supported while it is live. Wait for a public archived video page if the creator makes one available. Links to private, deleted, geographically unavailable, or protected content will return an error rather than silently fetching it from another account.

Quality, sound, and file size

MP4 describes a container. The picture and audio inside it can use different codecs. YouTube often offers multiple renditions, and the exact list depends on the source video, its processing state, region, and current platform behavior. The tool does not invent 1080p or 4K from a lower-resolution upload. If the best listed option is 720p, selecting a larger label elsewhere will not add detail. For a quick phone copy, a lower quality can be more practical because it transfers sooner and uses less storage.

Higher resolutions may arrive as separate video and audio streams. This service prepares one MP4 by fetching eligible streams and combining them before sending the file. That step can take longer than a direct transfer and needs temporary space on the relay. A 4K rendition may use a newer codec; an older phone or editing app might not play it smoothly even when the download succeeds. Subtitles and transcripts are also outside the current release. The presence of subtitle metadata on a video does not mean this tool currently exports captions. Saving an MP4 does not transfer a video’s comments, description, chapters, or rights information into a separate editable project.

The link is rejected immediately. Confirm it points to one video and that the ID is intact. A truncated address, channel URL, playlist-only link, or copied page title will not identify a playable item. Try the Share control on the individual video and paste the new link. If a Short URL fails, open the Short in the browser and copy the address after it loads; this removes some app-specific wrappers.

The link is recognized but no video information appears. The uploader may have made it private, deleted it, or restricted it to a region. A live broadcast is also unavailable while it is running. If the page works for you only while signed in, the anonymous extractor may not be able to reach it. Check the video’s visibility and try a public example. Repeatedly pressing Download will not bypass a source-side restriction and may trigger rate limits.

A file has no sound or will not play. Confirm the download finished rather than opening an incomplete file from a browser notification. When the result lists a merged option, let the preparation stage complete; the relay is responsible for combining picture and sound. If an older player cannot decode a 4K rendition, try a lower MP4 choice. A source upload with silent audio or licensed audio unavailable outside YouTube cannot be repaired by switching the container label.

Safari saved it somewhere unexpected. On iPhone, open Files, then Browse, then Downloads. Safari’s download location can be changed in device settings. Moving the MP4 into Photos is a separate action controlled by iOS; downloading in a browser does not automatically put it in the camera roll. If storage is tight, pick a smaller quality and keep the tab open until the download appears in Files.
